People's passion for holiday decorating has gone year-round. For more Americans, decorating their home for five major holidays including the Fourth of July is now a family tradition. Without a doubt, the nation’s capital is the place to be for the Fourth of July.
To celebrate Independence Day on a dime, Tracy Morris, an interior design specialist, gives her top five tips for making a fabulous fourth!
1. Create a new playlist of all of your favorite summer songs. Think about your guest list. If they are your best friends from school, find some old songs that will make you smile and bring back memories. Be sure to include freedom favorites such as Lee Greenwood's "Proud to be an American."
2. Dazzle guests with delicious desserts. The pre-portioned treats are a hit with guests young and old. Try Georgetown Cupcake's fabulous 4th of July cupcakes for a treat you don't even have to bake yourself. Budget friendly Betty Crocker always works too.
3. Complete the look with perfect accessories. Create a mood with contrasts. Alternate fire engine red lanterns with clear vases of “ice” blue hydrangeas. To add a summer scent, use linen scented tea light candles.
4. Make your party sparkle. Take a clear glass bowl and fill it with red, clear, and blue stones from a local craft store. Stand a long lasting sparkler in the center. If safety is a concern, fly a mini American flag instead. These fireworks are sure to make your party "pop!”
5. Personalize Your Soiree with a Signature Cocktail. Some fruity favorites…
**Patriotic Peach Lemonade
**Washington's Watermelon Cooler
For those who prefer alcohol free refreshments, these cocktails work nicely as "mocktails"
Tracy abides by the philosophy that "Design is not just about creating a room but creating an atmosphere, a memory...a home."
